Some cool image effects

So I was working on some stuff and I noticed something really weird.

Check out the following two pictures. Can you figure out a connection?







Now I assume you might have figured out it is just the same image with the suroundings faded out. However I did not use photoshop or any image processing tool to create this modified image. All I needed was my powerbook and a flashlight. Now every powerbook comes with a small apple behind the screen. Turns out this apple is actually translucent and lets light through. So with the screen totally blacked out and with a flashlight behind the monitor, I was able to create that effect. I thought it was pretty cool
